Four La Jolla athletes qualified for the CIF State Championships based on their performances at the CIF SDS Finals on May 30.
From La Jolla High School, Nihal Kayali qualified with a time of 2:12.34 in the girls' 800 meters, placing second. Dillon Fox tied for first in the boys pole vault at 14 feet, 4 inches. The Vikings' Jose Aviles placed second in the boys' shot put at 54-10.25.
From The Bishop's School, Taylor Maxey placed third in the girls' discus at 128-09.
Boys tennis La Jolla Country Day's Daniel Faierman and Warren Wood advanced to the finals of the CIF SDS doubles tournament. After a first-round bye, they beat teams from Canyon Crest Academy, Torrey Pines, Cathedral Catholic and Rancho Bernardo to advance to the June 1 final.
Faierman and Wood lost in the final, 6-2, 3-6, 2-6.
Boys golf La Jolla High finished eighth at the CIF San Diego Section Finals at Warner Springs Ranch on May 27. The Vikings' five-player, 36-hole total was 770.
La Jolla's Dylan Jackson advanced to the state tournament, qualifying as one of 12 individuals to play at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach on June 10.
Also, four La Jolla residents were members of the Francis Parker High boys' golf team honored recently as the CIF San Diego Section's All-Academic Team for their sport - Mike Nock, Max Lawrence, Mike Schreiner and Zach Gleicher.
Baseball La Jolla topped Valley Center, 8-3, in a D-III play-in game on May 26. The Vikings fell to Santana, 12-2, on May 27, but bounced back with an 11-3 win over Castle Park on May 29. La Jolla's tournament run ended with a 6-2 loss to Santana on May 30.
Bishop's topped Christian Life, 7-2, in a D-IV play-in game on May 26. The Knights fell to Horizon Christian, 22-1, on May 27, and lost to Madison, 25-3, on May 28.
La Jolla Country Day fell to Santa Fe Christian, 9-0, in a D-IV play-in game on May 26.
Boys lacrosse La Jolla fell to Rancho Bernardo, 9-4, in a quarterfinal playoff game on May 26 and Bishop's dropped an 8-7 decision to Cathedral Catholic in the quarterfinals the same day.
Girls lacrosse Bishop's fell, 14-4, to eventual champion La Costa Canyon in a May 26 quarterfinal matchup.
Boys volleyball Bishop's fell to eventual champion Francis Parker, 25-13, 25-12, 25-11, in the D-IV semifinals on May 27. .
