San Diegan Phil Mickelson will make a brief return to the PGA tour, just three weeks after he suspended playing to be by his wife's side as she underwent treatment for breast cancer, it was reported Tuesday.
The world's second-ranked golfer will play in next week's Saint Jude Championship in Memphis Tennessee and the U.S. Open at Bethpage Black in New York the following week, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune.
Representatives for the 38-year-old Mickelson said he is returning for the next two weeks because tests have given his family hope that Amy Mickelson's cancer was caught early and will respond well to treatment, the newspaper reported.
Mickelson met his wife in college at Arizona State and married her in 1996. The couple have three children, ages 6, 7 and 9. They live in Rancho Santa Fe.
