Week in Sports: Bishops defeats La Jolla, Country Day in girls lacrosse

The Bishop's School girls lacrosse team topped rival La Jolla High School, 10-8, on April 17, marking the first time in six years the Knights have beat the Vikings, according to Bishop's coach Meghan Carr.

Bishop's got two goals apiece from Haley Geier, Sophia Muller and Caroline Markham, and Dana Christianson made five saves. Camilla Johnston, Hillary Halter and Bianca Pham led the Knights' defense, Carr said.

Bishop's made it a city sweep by beating La Jolla Country Day, 13-1, on April 15. Emily Reit led the way with four goals.

La Jolla Country Day dropped an 11-3 decision to San Dieguito Academy on April 17.
La Jolla High School fell, 9-7, to Patrick Henry on April 14.

Boys lacrosse
The Bishop's School eased to a 16-1 win over La Jolla Country Day on April 15. The Knights topped Cathedral Catholic, 8-2, on April 18.

Country Day also fell to San Dieguito Academy, 9-8, on April 17.

La Jolla High lost to Patrick Henry, 8-7, on April 14 despite getting three goals apiece from Tyler Bourgeois and Mike Soumekh.

The Vikings dropped a 12-3 decision to Coronado on April 17. Casamir Morawaski scored twice for La Jolla.

Baseball
Bishop's picked up a 6-3 win over rival La Jolla Country Day on April 17, as the Knights scored five sixth-inning runs. Shane Dillon drove in two runs for the Knights in the win. The Torreys' Connor Gerhart had three hits and an RBI in a losing effort.

Bishop's topped Francis Parker, 7-6, on April 15. Chris Ludwig homered and drove in four runs, Sam Breier hit a home run and drove in three, and Kyle Gantz went 3-for-3. Jesse Jacobsen-Gal pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief in which he allowed just one run.

Country Day fell to San Dieguito Academy, 4-2, on April 14. Derek Hatfield doubled twice and scored a run for the Torreys.

La Jolla High fell to Cathedral Catholic, 19-2, on April 14. Max Strohl and Robbie Beathard contributed RBIs for La Jolla.

The Vikings dropped a 13-2 decision to the Dons on April 16. Stephen Foster drove in both runs for La Jolla.

Softball
La Jolla High rolled past Kearny, 20-1, on April 15. Rachel Skinner pitched a two-hitter for the Vikings, and Alyssa Taylor and Anna Parma hit home runs.

The Vikings also beat Mission Bay, 7-3, on April 16. Skinner pitched a complete game, and Parma hit another home run, her seventh of the season.

Country Day fell to Canyon Crest Academy, 12-1, on April 16.

Bishop's secured a 9-6 win over San Dieguito Academy on April 14. Briana Martinez hit two home runs and drove in five runs to spark the win.

The Knights dropped a 9-0 game to Horizon Christian on April 17.

Swimming
Country Day's boys team beat Point Loma, 81-74, on April 16. Liam Devine won the 200-yard freestyle, Donald Dean won the 100 butterfly, Adrian Evarkiou-Kaku was victorious in the 100 backstroke, and Henry Clasuner won the 100 breaststroke. The four swimmers teamed to win the 200 medley relay as well.

Country Day's girls fell to Point Loma, 103-67, on April 16. Alex Levine won the 100 backstroke for the Torreys, and was part of the victorious 200 freestyle relay team that also included Allison Rhodes, Gabi Shevel and Alex Rhodes.

Track
La Jolla High's girls team secured a 111-23 victory over Kearny on April 16, as the Vikings secured seven personal records and two season bests. Nihal Kayali raced to an easy win in the 800 meters, setting a PR of 2 minutes, 15.89 seconds.

Boys volleyball
La Jolla fell to Scripps Ranch, three games to two, on April 14, but two days later lost to Cathedral Catholic, 21-25, 25-17, 25-21, 27-25.

Bishop's School won its four matches in the Scripps Ranch tournament on April 18, beating Clairemont, two games to one and then sweeping West Hills, Montgomery and Serra.
