The Pepper Report
By Coach: Dr. Peter Nordland

The Red Hot Chile Peppers of La Jolla traveled to division rival, UC Del Sol to play their all-star laden team Toxic Teal on Saturday. Micaela "KK" Gotfredson singled in the first inning but was gunned down on her stealing attempt by a strong and accurate throw to second.

Next up, Paige Nordland fouled off several fast balls and worked the count to draw a walk but was stranded on base as the home team shortstop made a beautiful play on a red-hot, scorched grounder hit by Lisa Perrine to end the scoring threat, blanking the visiting "Chile Peppers". Toxic Teal led off the bottom of the first with back to back singles but were "pepper sprayed" when our own Lisette Cadena made a beautiful running catch in right field.

Later Toxic Teal attempted to steal home but Sarah Lewis and Micaela acted like a HazMat
team when they teamed up to detoxify the Toxic team tagging out their steal attempt at home plate. The UC team managed to plate 2 runs that inning.

The "Spice Girls", uncharacteristically, went down 1-2-3 in the second inning. Although Claire Andrews and Brooke Schuman made very nice plays a short and third, the UC girls added an additional run in the bottom of the inning.

The Red Hots showed their spice in the third inning as Madeleine Nagle led off the inning peppering a single. Abbie Tucker then hit a hard shot double over third and later made a picture-perfect slide into third base just under the tag. She was even awarded "style points" by coach Nordland.

Brooke and Lisa alertly reached first on dropped third strikes, just in time for "KK"
to hit a booming double and by the time the inning was over, the Chile Peppers had scored 3 runs but ended the inning with bases loaded.

The Peppers would score one more time in the game after Sarah Lewis reached on a walk, stole second, was sacrificed to third and then stole home. Although the final score went in the UC Del Sol favor 13-4, the Red Hot Chile Peppers showed their grit and never give up attitude.

Unfortunately the "Spice Girls" left bases loaded too often in Padre-like fashion, unable
to get the necessary runs in.
