Sep 15, 2008
- La Jolla Light

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) National 40 Hard Court Championships returns Dec. 1 through 7 to the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.

Competition is slated for Men's and Women's in singles, doubles and mixed doubles events for players over the age of 39. The field includes former touring pros and the nation's strongest players in this age group.

Matches begin Monday, Dec. 1 (singles play in the morning and doubles play in the afternoon) with finals scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6 and Sunday, Dec. 7. Tournament admission is free and open to the public. There is a nominal fee for on-site parking.

Also on the agenda at the Beach & Tennis Club is the USTA National Father and Son Hard Court Championship beginning Friday, Dec. 5 with matches concluding Sunday, Dec. 7. This championship has been held continuously at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club since 1959, and brings the top father and son tennis teams in the nation to La Jolla.

At the same time, the USTA National Grandfather and Grandson Hard Court Championship will be held on Dec. 5 to 7, at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.

All events mark the fourth leg of the 2008 USTA National Tournament circuit with preceding events having been held on grass, clay and indoor courts at other sites around the country.

The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club continues to host the Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championship in March, and The USTA National Senior Women's Hard Court Championships in May.
