UC San Diego Earns Program's 400th Victory with 2-0 Road Win to Open 2008 Season
Aug 28, 2008
- La Jolla Light

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The UC San Diego women's soccer opened its 2008 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Central Washington Friday, getting two scores in the second half to earn the program its 400th all-time victory.

After CWU outshot the Tritons 8-6 in the first half, UCSD rebounded after halftime and controlled the game with its offense. Freshman Tanaya Pattnaik got the scoring going for the Tritons in the 69th minute, firing a shot from the left side that got past the Wildcat goalkeeper.

Less than three minutes later, senior Natasha Belak-Berger took a cross from freshman Sara Spaventa and fired a shot past the keeper to extend UCSD's lead to 2-0.

Pattnaik and Berger finished with three shots apiece as the Tritons went on to outshoot the Wildcats 16-11. Senior

Jessica McGovern made four saves in net for the UCSD squad to earn her 21st career shutout.

The Tritons improved to 4-0-0 all-time against CWU, outscoring the Wildcats 21-0 in those contests. Head coach Brian McManus and the UCSD squad continues its road trip Saturday against Western Washington with a match beginning at 7 p.m.
