The San Diego Shores Water Polo Club won the Gold Medal in the Platinum 10 and Under Coed division of the 2008 Junior Olympics held in Irvine, Calif.
After remaining undefeated throughout the four day tournament, held July 31 through Aug. 3, the team won a 12-8 victory against Huntington Beach Water Polo Club in the final match.
La Jollan Evan Elig was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament in the 10-year-old and under division. This was the first year in which this young age group was included in the Junior Olympics tournament. Eighteen teams from around the country qualified to play.
"I am so proud of these kids. They've done something very impressive here for the very first time," Coach Jim Fales said.
