Week in Sports
Baseball La Jolla High School fell to Cathedral Catholic, 6-0, on May 7. The Vikings managed only one hit, and Patrick Christensen suffered just his second loss of the season despite allowing just two runs in five innings of work.
The Vikings rebounded with a 2-1 victory over Cathedral Catholic on May 9.
La Jolla moved to 17-8-1 overall and 6-4 in Western League play with two games left to play in the regular season.
La Jolla Country Day dropped a 6-1 decision to Horizon Christian on May 7. Derek Hatfield and John Hansbrough managed the Torreys' only two hits, and Hanbrough drove in the team's lone run.
The Torreys fell, 10-9, to Montgomery, on May 10 in extra innings. Montgomery scored two runs in the ninth, and Country Day plated just one in the bottom half of the inning. Greg Wisenberg went 4-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBIs.
The Bishop's School fell to Francis Parker, 11-0, on May 7.
The Knights dropped a 5-2 game to Canyon Crest Academy on May 9. Softball La Jolla High School fell to Brawley, 7-0, on May 7. The Vikings dropped an 11-2 decision to University City on May 9. La Jolla lost by the same score to University City on May 10.
The Bishop's School fell, 11-1, to Francis Parker on May 6.
The Knights rebounded with a 6-4 win over Canyon Crest Academy on May 8.
Track La Jolla High School's girls team turned in some solid results at the Western League prelims and finals. Nihal Kayali broke her own school record in the 1,600 meters. Nicole Bakke had a personal record in the 400, and Gina Schumacher had a PR in the 300 hurdles.
