More information has been forthcoming in a vehicle break-in listed in the 2100 block of Vallecitos in La Jolla Shores that occurred sometime during the evening of Oct. 28 as reported in the Light’s Crime Report.
An source, requesting anonymity, said thieves gained access to the Clubdominiums high-end condominium complex, which promotes its "country club ambiance," by accessing the complex’s underground parking.
According to the source, three vehicles — two SUVs and a Mustang convertible — parked underground in one of the three buildings at 2130 Vallecitos were broken into by having their windows smashed and numerous valuable items were taken, including golf clubs.
The source alleged lack of security was the overriding factor in the vehicular break-ins noting this is not the first time the complex has been hit.
Ron Harper, president of La Jolla Shores Clubdominium Homeowners Association, said security measures have been improved at the development, but added only so much can be done.
“Let’s face it, we’re not a secure place like 939 (Coast Boulevard high-rise condos) where everybody comes through one door,” he said. “There are three different buildings here in the Shores and three different garages and 105 homeowners: It’s a big complex.”
Harper said lighting has been added to the complex at night, security codes have been changed, motion sensors have been added and security guards are hired during the busy summer season to improve security.
Built in 1971 there are 106 units in the Clubdominiums with 2 to 3 bedrooms, ranging in size from 1,308 to 1,523 square feet of living space. Many of these exclusive units have panoramic ocean views.
