It worked so well the first time, La Jolla Shores is having a second go-round with its Fall Fest on Avenida de la Playa from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 25.
Sponsored once again by the La Jolla Shores Merchants Association, the event will serve up an afternoon of food, frivolity and live bands.
"We have more merchant participation, more bands, a lot more food, and it's a little longer and on a Sunday rather than a weekday," event committee chair Noelle Wojdowski said.
Participating restaurants in the event will include Osteria Romantica, Papalulu's and Barbarella's, which will be offering samples from their menus. Goodies are also being given out from surf shops, boutiques and businesses down the street. Also new to the event this year, La Jolla Shores Market will be giving away free pumpkins and balloons.
Festivities will include face-painting and a jumper for children as well as an appearance by Hullaballoo, performing live at 2 p.m., followed by the Blonde Brothers, playing outside on Avenida de la Playa.
Children and adults are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes during the event for a chance to win best costume.
"It's going to be a blast for everyone in the community," said merchant spokeswoman Izzy Tihanyi, owner/chief executive office4r of Surf Diva Surf School & Boutique, about the "Party on la Playa."
La Jolla Shores Fall Fest was started last year not primarily as a fundraiser but as a fun idea to promote the community and earn a few dollars to benefit local causes.
"If we do make a profit this year, we're just going to put it back into the community," said Wojdowski, adding that proceeds from last year's event were donated to the children's playground at Kellogg Park as well as to The Map project. "We're just throwing a fun, family-friendly event down at La Jolla Shores."
Tihanyi said Fall Fest tickets sold out last year.
"We're prepared to sell even more this year," she said.
Pre-event tickets are $5 a person ($10 on Oct. 25) and include a ticket to join the prize raffle.
Each La Jolla Shores shop, boutique and restaurant visited will issue a stamp or sticker for each of the 12 boxes on every ticket. Guests need a minimum of 10 stamps to enter the raffle. Prizes include gift certificates from local restaurants, boutiques, and surf and kayak schools.
Tickets are available at La Jolla Kayak, OEX Dive & Kayak Center, Surf Diva Surf Boutique, Neighbor Savor and the La Jolla Shores Hotel.
