By John Weinstein Membership chairman, La Jolla Town Council The La Jolla Town Council represents both residents and businesses as your community organization. We endeavor to bring together both constituencies, as well as local art, nonprofit, governmental and community groups in a positive, respectful environment to foster communication. Our ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life in La Jolla.
Our "Shop Local - Shop La Jolla" campaign is designed to support our local merchants and professionals that add to the richness and vibrancy of our stunning seaside town. Shopping locally helps create jobs, increases our tax base, reduces our carbon foot-print, as well as making our community more convenient and enjoyable for all.
In addition to supporting local businesses in general, we have added some special incentives for our Gold Business Members at the $500 membership level. We have a "Shop Local - Shop La Jolla" tab on the website to give special recognition for their community support.
These members receive an expanded brochure type business listing in addition to the basic directory information that all business members receive. Additionally, Gold Members can have an on-going promotion exclusive to fellow La Jolla Town Council members listed there.
Our newest Gold Member benefit is a monthly promotional e-blast to reinforce their La Jolla Light and other advertising. Gold Members can have up to 12 different promotions per year e-mailed to all La Jolla Town Council members, which brings the cost per promotion to just over $40 in addition to all the other member benefits, making the $500 Gold Membership a tremendous value.
The beauty of these promotions is that that can be exclusive to La Jolla Town Council members and they do not have to be shared with tourists and visitors at the business owner's discretion. These promotions can be discounts, gifts with purchase, fashion shows, client receptions, or anything else the business owner comes up with.
Of course, these promotions add great value to the residential members, too.
