I've got a nasty pothole story. A deep pothole on Prospect Street in front of the La Jolla Hotel caused me to crash while riding my bicycle on Prospect Street in downtown La Jolla at approximately 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2010. I was riding southwest on Prospect Street just before the stop sign at Girard Avenue when my front wheel hit a pothole in the middle of the street, which caused me to crash. I believe that this pothole is not new and has been there a while.
I suffered road rash to my right hip, right elbow and right shoulder. My bicycle helmet was cracked by the impact with the pavement and my jersey was ripped from sliding on the roadway.
I've lived in an around La Jolla for most of my life, and I can't ever remember the roads being in such a state of disrepair. How can our city be pushing forward with a new library and city hall when it can't even fill dangerous potholes?
