A number of letters about the seals talk about the miles of other beaches where humans could swim. That argument is true for seals also. There are miles of beach where they could relocate without taking away one of La Jolla's family swimming beaches. The west-facing beaches are great for surfers, but have pounding waves and a close shore break. These beaches are not suitable for casual swimmers, wading or children.
That leaves three beaches - Children's (which is being called Casa to obfuscate its intended use), the Cove and the Shores. Children's has been co-opted by the seals and animal rights activists. The Cove is beautiful but in truth, it's tiny. That leaves the Shores, but virtually all beachgoers use the beach in front of the two-block area of Kellogg Park.
... Move the seals back to nature and leave our small-city beaches to the higher-order mammals. Carolyn Lindberg La Jolla
