Since 1984, La Jolla Concerts by the Sea has been filling Scripps Park at La Jolla Cove with the sounds of live music on Sunday afternoons in the summer, providing free concerts for all. We are a not-for-profit corporation operated by volunteers and we rely on the generosity of local sponsors and donors to pay our production costs.
In these tough economic times, La Jolla Concerts by the Sea finds itself without sponsors for several of our 2009 concerts. In order to continue bringing these free concerts to the Cove, we are reaching out to the community for assistance by asking for contributions from local businesses and individuals in any amount to help us cover the costs necessary to put on the concerts, which will begin June 28 and run for 11 Sundays.
We kick off with The Heroes and cross a range of music genres throughout the summer, from mariachi and island sounds to Big Band. It's a great setting for a family-friendly afternoon event.
We hope through this fundraising drive to replace the missing sponsorship funds during this difficult time in order to keep the music playing ... hopefully for another 25 seasons.
We have several levels of sponsorship, from $100 up to $1,000 and beyond. You can find out about the benefits of each level at www.ljconcertsbythesea.org or by calling or e-mailing Nancy J. Miller at (858) 454-0260 or njmiller@san.rr.com.
Shirleymae Davis is co-chair of La Jolla Concerts by the Sea.
