A crowd - many decked out in pink - was heading through La Jolla Friday during the San Diego Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk, which started with an opening ceremony at 6:30 a.m. at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
And the spirit started early, with crews setting up tents, food and rest areas at Kellogg Park at La Jolla Shores, awaiting the walkers arrival for lunch. Meanwhile, Bird Rock also took on a decidedly "pink" look in advance of the march through the neighborhood after the midday break. When they get there, they were to be greeted by elementary school students at Waverly and Colima.
The fundraising walk involves more than 4,000 participants who went through downtown Del Mar between 7:30 and 9 a.m., where businesses decorated their shops in pink and residents to act as cheerleaders.
They wrap up the day at Crown Point before taking off Saturday morning to trek past SeaWorld and into Ocean Beach and Point Loma and back to the Mission Bay Camp. The walk ends with a trip through Old town, Mission Hills, Hillcrest and Downtown before the closing ceremony at Petco Park.
