Bird Rock residents are reminded to contribute to a safe and secure Halloween on Saturday by only handing out Halloween treats from 5 to 8 p.m.
After that, community leaders and police are asking them to turn off their lights and bring in their pumpkins for safety.
Police once again this year will have a beefed-up presence in the community with as many as a dozen officers doing foot patrol and a command post set up on Camino de la Costa. The social host ordinance, which holds adults responsible for alcohol consumed by minors on their premises, will also be enforced.
Some planned Halloween activities around town will include:
- Halloween Festival. 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 31 at La Jolla Recreation Center, 615 Prospect. Carnival games, face-painting, arts and crafts, rides, astro jump, music. Four tickets for $1. (858) 552-1658.
- Harvest Festival. 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at La Jolla Community Church and Eastgate Christian School, 4377 Eastgate Mall, east of Genesee.
