Some members of the Class of 2013 gather for the annual Summer Send-Off Picnic at The La Jolla Project (1984) by Robert Fleischner, also known as "Stonehenge," on the grounds of Revelle College at UCSDD. Nearly one-quarter of the incoming class attended picnics held last weekend throughout California.
Incoming freshmen and their families joined UCSD alumni for the annual Summer Send-Off Picnic on Sunday.

The new students met their peers from the San Diego area and got the inside scoop about the university, and Chancellor Marye Anne Fox, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Penny Rue, and Armin Afsahi, '90, executive director of the UCSD Alumni Association, all gave remarks.

The campus is welcoming 3,740 freshmen this fall who bring with them an average high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.96 and SAT test scores of 601 reading, 655 math and 615 writing. UCSD also is expecting 1,860 new transfer students who are entering with an average college GPA of 3.41.
