Dr. William Brody, president of the Salk Institute, has been named to the Independent Citizens Oversight Committee, which governs the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine.
"Dr. Brody is an accomplished scientist, widely recognized among his peers as one of our nations' forefront thinkers in biomedical engineering and healthcare policy," said Lt. Gov. John Garamendi, who appointed him to the post.
Brody, an acclaimed physician-scientist, entrepreneur and university leader, joined the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in March 2009 after 12 years as president of The Johns Hopkins University.
He is a national figure in efforts to encourage innovation and strengthen the U.S. economy through investments in research and education. Most recently, he has written and spoken extensively around the country to promote a fuller discussion of health care reform.
Renowned for his achievements in biomedical engineering, Brody is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Medicine.
