Sunglasses shop burglaries in La Jolla may be linked
Jun 11, 2009 By City News Service - La Jolla Light
Burglars broke into two La Jolla sunglasses shops early Thursday and made off with handfuls of high-end merchandise, authorities reported.
The break-ins at the businesses on Prospect Street and La Jolla Village Drive were likely the work of the same thieves who looted two other stores that sell sunglasses in the same general area last month, according to San Diego police.
No property-loss estimates were immediately available, though an employee at one of the shops burglarized this morning told news crews the crooks made off with numerous expensive pairs of eyewear, some of which sell for more than $1,000 each.
There are no surveillance photos or video footage of the perpetrators, SDPD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said.
"We are investigating all cases and also talking with other jurisdictions to see if they have had any similar (heists),'' she said.
