The Preuss School at UC San Diego is ranked 10th on Newsweek's list of top U.S. high schools.
The 1,500 schools on Newsweek's annual list, which was released this week, were ranked by Advanced Placement tests taken by students and represent the top 6 percent of public schools, according to the magazine.
Topping Newsweek's list was the Talented and Gifted school, followed by the the Science/Engineering Magnet school, both in Dallas, Texas.
The Preuss School was the only California school in the top 10.
