Salmon, steelhead crisis is focus of Saturday film screening

A free screening of "Rivers of a Lost Coast," a documentary that looks at California's current salmon and steelhead crisis through the eyes of lifelong fly fishermen, is set for 7:45 p.m. Saturday at Sumner Auditorium on the Scripps campus at UCSD.

The film focuses on San Lorenzo, Smith, Eel and Russian Rivers in Northern California. The film was made with the cooperation of the California Department of Fish and Game and Peter Moyle of UC Davis.

Several groups and organizations will set up tables outside before the film, including the Escondido Creek Conservancy, the Golden State Fly Casters and the San Diego Fly Fishers.

Tickets will be given out at a table adjacent to the entrance of the auditorium to the first 250 people who arrive. Donations will be accepted, with part going to fund the screening and future bookings and the rest to San Diego Coastkeeper and the Escondido Creek Conservancy.
