Dr. Margaret McCahill
Dr. Margaret McCahill, a faculty member of the UCSD School of Medicine and director of St. Vincent de Paul Village Health Clinic, received the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the California Medical Board for her work with the indigent.

She was honored Friday at a meeting in San Diego. She is the founding director of the combined residency program where medical students earn family medicine and psychiatry degrees while working at St. Vincent de Paul Village.

McCahill is also president of the San Diego Health & Faith Alliance.

Manecke gets new post
Gerard Manecke, M.D., has been named chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine and Medical Center.

He is a member of the department since 2000 and interim chair since 2004.

The department has a number of nationally recognized programs including the UCSD Center for Pain Medicine, Regional Anesthesia and Cardiothoracic Anesthesia.
The UCSD Center for Pain Medicine is the only multidisciplinary treatment program in the region specializing in the treatment of acute and chronic pain including cancer pain.

Trees coming
In recognition of its designation as one of nine colleges cited for its campus forestry programs, UCSD will plant 100 trees Nov. 12, Arbor Day.

Sugar gum eucalyptus, magnolias and Torrey Pines will be planted in an 11:15 a.m. ceremony in a grove east of the Faculty Club where hundreds of trees have been lost to storms, land development and drought, campus officials said in a news release.

The Arbor Day Foundation designation comes through a new program, Tree Campus USA, launched to honor college campuses for promoting healthy urban forest management and engaging the campus in environmental stewardship.
