All Hallows Academy students will start school on Aug. 27 on a campus with a new look and a new field that will give them a chance to host games, school officials said.
"Everything's been really upgraded and remodeled and done over," said All Hallows principal Michaele Durant.
Three fundraising campaigns that raised about $6 million enabled the 43-year-old Catholic school, which serves kindergarten through 8th grade students, to put in a new kindergarten, library, music classrooms and to upgrade the computer lab. In addition, the administration building has been renovated.
Also new and unique to All Hallows among parochial schools is a learning center where children with challenges such as dyslexia and Attention Deficit Disorder will receive small-group instruction in reading and math.
In the past few months the field and asphalt areas were renovated, complete with new sod and irrigation, an electronic scoreboard, wall-ball board, chain-link fence and security lights.
The renovations include a new concession area, which will be run by a club made up of fathers of All Hallows students.
The renovations give the school, which participates in the diocese-wide sports club, the ability to host games.
The field will be named after Father Fox, who was the pastor at All Hallows Church for 30 years. The school, which participates in the diocese-wide sports club, will now be able to host games.
Michael Furby of Marathon Construction donated labor and equipment to restore the field.
"The first day of school it will be ready to go," said MaryAnn Pintar, and All-Hallows parent and parishioner.
All Hallows' enrollment is approximately 250, roughly the same as last year's. Durant said she is very pleased because it shows people are still enrolling their children in Catholic schools despite the current economic climate.
The school still has openings for new students, although a few grades have waiting lists, she added. The school accepts transfers after the school year begins.
Earlier this year, All Hallows Academy received a full six-year accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Western Catholic Educational Association. This fall, the school will also welcome one new faculty member, who will be teaching reading and physical education.
