At this year's "Taste of Bird Rock," nearly 100 local businesses will participate. Participants will receive discounts to several boutiques with designer clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories.
A ribbon cutting will be presided over by Council President Scott Peters at 5:30 p.m. at the Forward Street roundabout.
Taste of Bird Rock cuisine will include American, French, Italian, Mexican, Thai, Japanese and other foods.
Kids can enjoy face painting, baloon artists, a jumpee and petting zoo.
Tickes are $25 for adults, $15 for kids and $20 for BRCC members. Last year, the event raised nearly $15,000.
Gold sponsors for this year's event are the agents of Willis Allen La Jolla. Silver Sponsors are Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, Ross Dixon & Bell LLP, Witt Lincoln Mercury and Bird Rock Realtor Michelle Dykstra.
Participating restaurants in the event include Bahia, Beaumont's, Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, Bird Rock Pizza, Bird Rock Yogurt, Bully's, French Pastry Cafe, Lupi Vino Cucina, Mariscos, Station Sushi Bird Rock and Starbucks.
Proceeds from the event, which features live music, a kids play area and other attractions as well as food sampling form at least 10 different local restaurants, will be donated to local schools to offset budget cuts and rising costs.
"All proceeds are going to Bird Rock Elementary and a sister school that we will select," said Simone Goldman, a Bird Rock Community Council (BRCC) spokesperson handling event public relations.
