Oh say, can you see fireworks? Of course!
Jul 1, 2008
By Nicole Reino - La Jolla Light

The forecast calls for bright and booming local skies on the night of July 4. Whether you're at the La Jolla Cove, aboard a 19th century steam ferry on the San Diego Bay or tapping your feet to the sounds of the Navy Band Southwest at the San Diego County Fair, fireworks will be seen and heard. Just how loud will they be? Well, let's just say earplugs and sunglasses might come in handy.

Big Bay Fireworks Spectacular: 9 p.m. Best viewing locations: Shelter Island, Harbor Island, North Embarcadero, Seaport Village and Coronado Landing. (877) 224-4229.

La Jolla Independence Day Celebration: 9 p.m. Fireworks are best be seen from La Jolla Cove, Scripps Park and La Jolla Shores. (858) 454-1444.

Legoland's Red, White & Boom Celebration: 8:30 p.m. Regular admission applies for park guests. After 7 p.m., non-park guests can view fireworks from the parking lot for $2. Admission to the park: $49.95-$59.95. (760) 918-5346.

Mission Bay Yacht Club: 9 p.m. Boats will parade around the bay before the fireworks, which will be set to the sounds of The Lisa Campbell Band. (858) 488-0501.

Paradise Point Resort & Spa: 9 p.m. Fireworks follow a barbeque that begins at 6 p.m. Barbeque: $29-$72. (858) 274-4630.

San Diego County Fair (Del Mar Fairgrounds): 9 p.m. Fireworks will follow a concert by the Navy Band Southwest, which performs at 7:30 p.m. KC & the Sunshine Band will perform after the fireworks. The show is free with fair admission: $6-$12. Parking: $9. (858) 755-1161.

San Diego Maritime Museum Fourth of July Celebrations: 9 p.m. The Big Bay fireworks shows will be viewable from the Berkeley, Star of India, Surprise, Californian and B-39 submarine. A barbecue, which includes entertainment, will be held aboard the Berkeley at 7 p.m. $20-$40. (619) 234-9153.
