We live in a golden age of home entertainment. There is so much great TV we can enjoy from the comfort of our own homes: HBO series like
Game of Thrones,
Netflix originals like
House of Cards,
the NBA playoffs, the Stanley Cup, HGTV. That’s why it’s so important to have a great home entertainment system. And, although, high-quality equipment is certainly key to the home entertainment experience, there are also other things you want to take into consideration.
One brand doesn’t fit all:
Today, with websites like Gizmodo and CNET, it’s easy to find reviews on products. And, as I said before, quality is important, but even if a brand has received really high reviews, it might not be the perfect choice for you. You also want to take into consideration what types of media you primarily watch or listen to. For example, whether you primarily watch sports, action movies, or music videos will determine the kinds of speakers you should get. Also, don’t be afraid to mix and match different brands. A TV from one brand and speakers from another might best suit your custom needs.
Invest in your future:
Sometimes we make decisions based on saving a few bucks on equipment, but in my experience, I’ve realized that saving a few bucks often ends up costing my clients more money. Of course, I would never recommend spending more than you comfortably can, but saving $50 bucks on a set of speakers or buying a smaller TV because it’s a little less expensive usually translates into buying what you actually want the next year, and, therefore, actually ends up costing more.
Allow professional installation:
After purchasing a whole new entertainment system, it might be tempting to save some money by installing it yourself, but unless you
know what you’re doing, it will probably save you a lot of time, frustration and money to have it professionally installed. People have destroyed their new TVs and their lower backs trying to install them. Also, professionals understand the best layout for your home entertainment system. There are important logistical issues like avoiding the glare for windows, installing the TV in a location for maximum comfort, as well as knowing the optimum location for the speaker.
