More than 4,000 of the world’s top charitable fundraisers in San Diego will gather for the 50th annual International Conference on Fundraising, April 7-9 to listen to world-renowned speakers including Grammy-award winning Jon Legend, philanthropist Barbara Pierce Bush and "Life is Good" founder Bert Jacobs.
The Conference will be held at the San Diego Convention Center, 111 West Harbor Drive. Attendance to the full conference is $1420 and Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) members pay $925 and one-day entrance is $525.
The conference, open to the public, serves as the annual forum and training ground for fundraisers from around the world and a celebration of the philanthropy and social change that fundraising makes possible.
Philanthropy is not only good for the needy and underserved, San Diego nonprofits stimulate our economy bringing in new money via grants, according to the Caster Family Center for Nonprofit and Philanthropic Research. In 2009, San Diego nonprofits received over $200 million in grants from sources outside of our region. And, San Diego is home to more than 600 private, community, corporate, and operating foundations who contributed more than $287 million to local nonprofits in 2010. Having such a prestigious conference here in San Diego also brings in those welcome tourist dollars, too.
In addition, the Diversity Art Showcase, on view throughout the run of the conference, was created in 1999 as of way of showing AFP members that diversity can be fun. Over the years, it has expanded to show the uniqueness and skills of our members through their art and poetry. An art contest was created to work with a local school known for its diversity and to engage their students about the meaning of philanthropy and to then have them interpret this through art. In addition, the showcase includes a local professional artist who embodies diversity through art. This year, the showcase will feature inspiring works of art from local artist Sal Barajas, whose murals grace Centro Cultural de la Raza in Balboa Park and San Diego’s Chicano Park, as well as students from the
, a unique charter middle and high school for low income, highly motivated students who strive to become the first in their families to graduate from college.

Welcome event and celebration at The New Children’s Museum, 200 West Island Ave. across from the Convention Center, will feature delicious cuisine, hosted beverages, and a live band in the museums vibrant, interactive, state-of-art setting from 6:30-9 p.m. for $55.

Four for Change: be awed and inspired—by the work of four young philanthropists who are making incredible change around the world. Speakers include: Barbara Bush Pierce, Hugh Evans, Emmanuel Jal and Bilaal Rajan.
Winners from the Preuss School from the Diversity Art Showcase will be recognized.
Distinguished speaker session 10:30am, with Marcus Buckingham bestselling author, researcher and motivational speaker.
