A 31-year-old man kidnapped a couple outside a CVS Pharmacy  in La Jolla at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night (Sept. 11), forcing them to withdraw an undisclosed amount of cash from a drive-up Bank of America ATM.

The man jumped in the backseat of the couple's silver Honda Acura as they were leaving the pharmacy, on Villa La Jolla Drive North near Nobel Drive. After the couple obtained the cash from the ATM, the man then forced them at gunpoint to drive him through La Jolla to Pacific Beach.

The man ordered the couple to stop the vehicle near Garnet Avenue and Soledad Mountain Road, where he got out and fled.

The couple phoned police, who located a man matching the suspect's description blocks away on Loring Street.

The suspect had a fake gun on him, and cash. He was arrested and faces robbery and kidnapping charges, according to police reports.

The couple was unharmed in the incident.
