Internet safety program set for Muirlands on Wednesday

A free Internet safety seminar for parents will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night at Muirlands Middle School, 1056 Nautilus St.

Alison Lee of the La Jolla Cluster Association, one of the event sponsors, explained her goal for the event is that “parents will hear the same message and start setting some of the same rules in their households about what is appropriate and what isn't. When the kids realize that it isn't just their parents being unreasonable maybe the need to be cautious will start to sink in.”

During the event, speakers will talk about cyberbullying as well as other online threats associated with social media outlets and online gaming.

Coinciding with the launch of San Diego Police Foundation’s SafetyNet eLearning Guide, the event is also sponsored by the police foundation and the San Diego Crimes Against Children Task Force in conjunction with ESET, the creators of the guide, and AT&T Foundation.

The eLearning Guide is a a free online handbook for parents, educators and concerned adults that provides information ways to help parents keep "kids safe in cyberspace.“
