UCSD’s Department of Music opens its Winter 2011 Concert Season with the Wednesday, Jan. 12 West Coast debut of the renowned Wet Ink Ensemble, performing a program featuring a new work by UCSD composer and music faculty member Katharina Rosenberger.

Season highlights include the popular Camera Lucida chamber music series (Jan. 31, March 14), the 13-concert Sonic Diasporas alumni music festival (Jan. 20-22), and the Wednesdays@7 new and experimental music series that begins with Wet Ink and continues with pianist Aleck Karis (Jan. 26), Palimpsest chamber orchestra (Feb. 8), and sitarist Kartik Seshadri (March 9).

Together with many other concerts featuring faculty, grad students, and ensembles such as the Gospel Choir and Wind Ensemble, the Department of Music is presenting more than 40 concerts in January, February and March.

Most concerts take place at the department’s Conrad Prebys Music Center that opened in 2009 and includes the architecturally and acoustically superb 400-seat Conrad Prebys Concert Hall.

Ticket prices range from $25 for Camera Lucida (a collaboration of renowned performers from San Diego Symphony and UCSD music faculty) and $15 for Wednesdays@7, to several performances offering FREE admission.
