Here is more on the matchup

Union Mine (32-5) reached the State Championship by defeating Soquel at home on Tuesday (11/29) in the first Northern California Regional Final in the school’s 12-year history. The Diamondbacks, who won their first Sac-Joaquin Section title, will be making their first State Finals appearance. Coached by Mike Yates, Union Mine is a small team, both in numbers and size, which wins by ball controlling teams to death and serving with power and precision.

La Jolla Country Day reached its third straight Division IV Final by downing Francis Parker in five sets Tuesday, a third straight win over its league rival after dropping the first two matches this year.

The Torreys, who have won three Coastal South League titles and three San Diego Section titles in a row, are a surprise State Championship participant in 2011 after graduating five starters off of its 2010 Championship squad, but coach Peter Ogle’s squad has been playing its best volleyball of late and comes to Irvine winners of 15 of its previous 16 matches.
