UCSD receives grant to establish energy innovation challenge

UC San Diego received a $1.05 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to establish a regional energy innovation challenge, it was announced Wednesday.

UCSD's William J. von Liebig Center for Entrepreneurism and Technology Advancement and Rady School of Management will partner with San Diego State University to hold the annual event, which will help connect the developers of energy-related technologies to potential sources of capital, according to the Department of Education.

A total of $5.3 million in funding for five university-based technology programs was announced today by Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu to help bring energy-efficiency and renewable energy technologies forged in the lab to the market place.
