UCSD is adding another event to its 50

th

anniversary celebration, campus tours highlighting its architecture and history.

Scheduled for the second Sunday of the month from this Sunday through May 2011, tours are offered exclusively to those who have purchased “The Campus Guide: University of California, San Diego.” Reservations are required as seating on the bus is limited to 18 people.

The guide includes a history of the campus’s growth and a map to campus landmarks and buildings. It is one of only about 20 such guides in the nation — and one of only three for California campuses.

“UC San Diego has a collection of buildings that is unique among the UC campuses and one of the prime collections of modern architecture in California,” said guide author Dirk Sutro. “UC San Diego is known as experimental and innovative, and its architecture is an outgrowth and parallel evolution of that ethos.”

Guides from the UC San Diego Visitors Tour Program will lead visitors through the campus as well as on a stop at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, which was on the bluffs of La Jolla before the university opened.

“The Campus Guide: University of California, San Diego” is available at the Bookstore on campus and
