Mingei International Museum to host panel on 'History of Mexico'

Mingei International Museum and the Mexican Consulate in San Diego will present a symposium on Mexican history from 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at the museum in Balboa Park.

Featuring scholars from both Mexico and the U.S., the symposium is presented in celebration of the Bicentennial of Mexican Independence and the Centennial of its Revolution, and it accompanies Mingei International’s exhibition “VIVA MEXICO – Heroes and Artisans.”

The symposium will end with a wine and cheese reception featuring the wines of Baja California.

Speakers will include Mexican historian Enrique Florescano; UCSD historian Eric Van Young; Mexican History Academy member David Pinera; SDSU history professor Paul Vanderwood; Director of the Institute of Historical Research at Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Marco Antonio Samaniego; and Alberto Blanco, one of Latin America's most outstanding poets.

Each lecture will be presented in English or Spanish with simultaneous translation.
