The dean of San Diego State University's College of Business Administration announced Tuesday she will resign at the end of the 2011 spring semester.

Gail Naughton has served as the college's dean since 2002 and is leaving to focus on her work as the head of her biotechnology company, Histogen Inc., according to SDSU spokeswoman Gina Jacobs.

Prior to joining SDSU she spent 15 years at La Jolla-based Advanced Tissue Sciences as its founder and co-inventor of its technology and oversaw the development of four tissue-engineered products through market launch.

A search for a new dean is already under way, but applications will be accepted through Jan. 7, Jacobs said.

During Naughton's tenure, the College of Business Administration received increased philanthropic support, including $3 million to the Entrepreneurial Management Center, $1.5 million to establish The Corky McMillin

Center for Real Estate and $10 million to the School of Accountancy.

"Gail has elevated SDSU's College of Business Administration during her tenure and the college is stronger, more prominent and more highly respected nationally than it's ever been,'' said SDSU Provost Nancy Marlin.
