The east end of Spruance Road to Terminal 2 at San Diego International Airport will be closed for several months to allow construction teams to do underground utility work and realign the roadway, officials said Friday.
The road is expected to reopen and connect with the airport roadways in November, according to the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.
The utility and realignment project is needed to accommodate construction on a 460,000-square-foot addition to Terminal 2, which will add 10 new gates and create an elevated roadway that separates arriving and departing passengers.
To access airport roadways from Spruance Road, drivers need to travel west on Spruance Road to McCain Road and use Harbor Drive, according to the Airport Authority.
