Contemporary works went to highest bidder

Bidders' paddles were waving high at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego's benefit Art Auction 2010 held April 21 at the museum's La Jolla galleries. Funds raised will aid MCASD's education programs and future art acquisitions.

Before the live auction at 8 p.m., hosted by August Uribe, senior vice president of Sotheby's New York, guests mingled, reviewed the pieces for sale, and enjoyed champagne, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. A coffee and dessert reception closed the evening.

The seventh such auction (held every other year) featured photography, paintings and sculptures by contemporary masters, including John Baldessari, Manny Farber, Nancy Rubins, Ed Ruscha and Robert Irwin, among many others. For more about the museum, visit
