Episcopalian Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori, the first woman to lead the Episcopal Church, will preach at St. James by-the-Sea in La Jolla on Sunday, April 6. The service begins at 10 a.m. and is open to the public.
St. James, a historic, mission-style church on Prospect Street, celebrated its 100th anniversary last year.
The Episcopal Church is the American branch of the Anglican Communion, a religious tradition born of the once Roman Catholic Church of England. The Presiding Bishop serves as spiritual leader to more than 2.4 million Episcopalians and is elected every nine years to serve as the chief pastor and Primate of the church.
Jefferts Schori, who is also an oceanographer, was elected in 2006 to her current position.
