The second annual Deborah Salzer Excellence in Arts Education Award will be presented to Courtney Flanagan, drama teacher at The Bishop's School in La Jolla, at "Lights Up! Playwrights Take the Stage" at 6: 30 p.m. Nov. 7 at The Neurosciences Institute, 10640 John Jay Hopkins Drive, La Jolla.
Winners of the California Young Playwrights Contest will also be announced at the event.
In nominating Flanagan, the arts community said she has inspired hundreds of students in an impressive 25-year history as an outstanding arts educator at The Bishop's School. In tribute, "Lights Up!" will feature an excerpt from the play "Requiem For a Saint," written by Matt McKenna in 1997 when he was a student at The Bishop's School. It was originally produced in Playwrights Project's 13th season of Plays by Young Writers.
This year's winners will see their plays produced in the 25th season of Plays by Young Writers in February at the Lyceum Theater.
Tickets for "Lights Up!" are $15-$40 at (619) 239-8222.
