Runners keep pace around pumpkins
Torrey Pines Elementary School's Miles Ahead Running Club held a Pumpkin Run on Friday - a special day for the runners, who get out and do their laps on a regular basis. From 8:40 to 8:55 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, more than 100 students -and some parents and siblings - can be found doing laps and getting their cards signed so they can be recognized with stickers, tokens and certificates. They keep track of each lap to find to find out how far club members have run. In 2008-09, they tallied 8,787 miles and reached Tokyo, according to the Torrey Pines school's foundation Web site.
