The 12th installment of the Patté Awards for Theater Excellence, held Jan. 19 at the Westin Gaslamp Quarter, paid homage to more than 450 theater artists and patrons of the arts.
Guests were greeted with pâté and champagne, then they made their way into the ballroom for dinner and a show featuring live musical performances of "Dreamgirls" from San Diego Musical Theatre's production of "Dreamgirls" and "Partay" from San Diego Repertory Theatre's "The Princess and the Black-Eyed Pea."
Awards such as Outstanding Performance, Production, Direction and Scenic Design were just a handful of the 30 that were presented in more than 12 categories. Winners represented 17 local theater companies.
Pat Launer, the host for the evening, handed out several awards. The Patté Theater Angel Award was presented to San Diego County Supervisor, Pam Slater-Price. The Shiley Lifetime Achievement Award, which was underwritten by Donald and Darlene Shiley, was given to Leon Natker and J. Sherwood Montgomery for their years of making music together at Lyric Opera San Diego and for overseeing the resurrection of the Birch North Park Theatre.
The Patté Awards will be broadcast on Channel 4 San Diego at 8 p.m. Feb. 6. For the complete list of winners, click here.
