The traditional Indian attire worn by some of the members was a glimpse into what patrons can expect to see at next year's Jewel Ball, themed "Silk & Spice: A Passage to India."

Las Patronas has announced the theme for next year's Jewel Ball: "Silk & Spice: A Passage to India." The theme was revealed during a grand skit performed at the organization's new member luncheon, held Oct. 15 at La Jolla Country Club. Las Patronas' members dressed in traditional Indian garb, read scripts and danced around the ballroom, all the while hinting at the theme. It was officially announced at the end of the performance.

Last week's luncheon also honored past presidents and ball chairs while welcoming its new members. In addition, Las Patronas announced how much money was raised by this year's "Speakeasy"-themed Jewel Ball: $1,215,258.

Jennifer Greenfield, Jewel Ball chair, said it is the largest amount of money Las Patronas has raised in the history of the Jewel Ball.

Since 1946, the all-volunteer philanthropic organization has donated more than $12 million to more than a thousand charitable institutions in San Diego.
