Last week's opener of the 2008 summer racing season set a record for being the most attended Opening Day in the track's 69 seasons. A crowd of 43,459 people made their way to the Del Mar Fairgrounds on July 16, according to Mac McBride, director of media for the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club.
We took our heels, hats and cameras to Opening Day to scope out the grand scene. Take a look at what we saw.
