The San Diego Art Prize, funded by San Diego Visual Arts Network, is an annual award given to two established artists, who in turn, choose an emerging artist for the award. Selected works of the 2012 winners, established artists Jeffery Laudenslager and Arline Fisch and emerging artists Deanne Sabeck and Vincent Robles, are now on view through May 4, 2013 at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, 1008 Wall St. in La Jolla.

La Jolla Shores Surfing Association is accepting applications for its annual Menehune Surf Contest on April 20 at La Jolla Shores. The deadline for registration is April 13.

Sold-out audiences of nearly 500 people at each screening filled the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego’s Sherwood Auditorium in La Jolla for the 30th anniversary of Spike & Mike’s Festival of Animation during the weekend of March 1-2, 2013 in which Rich Moore was the special guest. Moore is the director of Disney’s Oscar-nominated animated film, “Wreck-It Ralph.” He has also directed many popular episodes of “The Simpsons” and “Futurama” during the first few seasons of those shows.

If you are a fan of pop art, photorealism, and all their concomitants, you won’t want to miss “Lifelike,” an engaging array of delightful, disturbing, meticulous re-creations of everyday things now on view at Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla.

The 2013 Farmers Insurance Open and La Jolla Village Merchants Association have joined forces to introduce an evening concert series called, Haute La Jolla Nights. The event will take place the week of the Farmers Insurance Open, Thursday, Jan. 24 to Saturday, Jan. 26 with shuttle service, live music, art, shopping and fine dining for patrons. Festivities will begin after golf play each day.
