La Jolla golfer misses U.S. Amateur spot by one stroke

On July 25, 17-year-old La Jolla High student Perry Cohen competed in the U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifier in Medford, Ore., where typically college-aged and older golfers compete. Enduring the test of stamina that is a 36-hole course (taking 9 to 10 hours to complete), Cohen finished at 8 under par.

Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs joins investors seeking to buy Sacramento Kings


The San Diego Business Journal is reporting that Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs has joined an investor group trying to purchase the Sacramento Kings basketball team and build a new arena there. A Qualcomm spokesperson said the company does not have a comment regarding the news.

Committee urges broadcast deal for Padres Games

At the request of the Rules and Economic Development Committee, representatives from Time Warner Cable and Fox Sports San Diego today agreed to meet next week and discuss how best to reach a broadcast deal for Padres games. Council President Pro Tem Sherri Lightner, who serves as chair of the committee, called the special meeting because of repeated complaints she has heard from constituents about their inability to watch Padres games on television.

Music, art and dining should bring PGA visitors to Haute La Jolla Nights, Jan. 24-26 during Farmers Insurance Open

La Jolla-based rock and roll band will bring it during Haute La Jolla Nights events coinciding with the Farmers Open golf tournament.

The La Jolla Village Merchants Association will partner with the Farmers Insurance Open to bring Haute La Jolla nights, a series of free concerts, fine art, shopping and dining deals to La Jolla Village during the PGA Tournament at Torrey Pines Golf Course, Jan. 21-27.

Haute La Jolla Nights will take place in La Jolla Village from Thursday, Jan. 24 through Saturday, Jan. 26 during the 2013 Farmers Insurance Open golf tournament. The 2013 Farmers Insurance Open and La Jolla Village Merchants Association have joined forces to introduce an evening concert series called, Haute La Jolla Nights. The event will take place the week of the Farmers Insurance Open, Thursday, Jan. 24 to Saturday, Jan. 26 with shuttle service, live music, art, shopping and fine dining for patrons. Festivities will begin after golf play each day.
