Boys Golf: La Jolla’s Bishop’s Knights relax with humor during 2014 season

“I joined the high school golf team because the offer was simply too good to pass up: skip school to go play golf for free,” said senior co-captain Chase Lauer of The Bishop’s School golf team.

La Jolla Youth Baseball sends 10 teams to PONY Section tournament

La Jolla Youth Baseball sent 10 teams to the PONY Section tournament. The top four teams advance to a Region tournament where the drive gets longer and the pitching gets tougher.

La Jolla Country Day’s Hadiyah Muhammad seemed to have soared into the stratosphere as she beat all other comers in triple-jumping 37 feet, 11.50 inches to win the event at the CIF Finals May 31 at Mt. Carmel High School.

True Champions: La Jolla High School football team raises cash, prowess for equipment

La Jolla High School football team proved to be champions at many feats — including races, basketball shooting and weight lifting — during the Night of Champions fundraiser May 17, 2014. Held at the school, 750 Nautilus St., student-athletes tested their strength through bench presses, deadlifts, shoulder lifts and tricep presses; their focus with different slam dunk and three-point basketball shooting contests; their speed with sprint races and relay races; and their hunger with a pie-eating contest, all to raise money for football equipment. Parents and friends, as well as the new cheerleading squad, encouraged them from the stands.

Lefty pitcher Sam Schneider was effective early to gain his eighth win of the season, and the La Jolla Vikings held on to down the Eastlake Titans 5-3 in the first round of the CIF Division II playoffs at home May 28.

ishop’s Knight sophomore and righthander Robby Schreiber kept visiting the Southwest Raiders close for six innings, but three Raider runs coming with two outs in the seventh inning ended the Knights’ season, 5-1, in a play-in game at Spanos Field on the campus of Kate Sessions School May 27.

Diving: La Jolla High Viking Jackie Real takes fifth place in CIF Finals

Jackie Real received scores of 5 and 5.5 on a 10 scale for her forward 2½ tuck dive at the CIF Finals May 23, and was pretty pleased. A mark from 5 to 7 in the meet held at Mesa College is a solid score. It was the second of the La Jolla High junior’s six dives during a long, three-hour competition.
