Athletic scholarships to debut for La Jolla’s UCSD Tritons

This fall will be the first time in UC San Diego history that the campus will offer prospective high-merit student-athletes athletic scholarships significant enough to help cover tuition and educational costs.

Rowing: La Jollans win gold in two New England championships

La Jollans Caroline Feeney, a 2013 graduate of Francis Parker School and Ursula Granirer, a 2013 graduate of The Bishop’s School, found themselves rowing together on the Women’s Novice Eight during their freshman year at Trinity College, a liberal arts and sciences college founded in 1823 in Hartford, Connecticut.

Four students from La Jolla High School, three from Torrey Pines High School and two from La Jolla Country Day School signed letters of intent Feb. 5, committing to play a certain sport for a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) college for at least
one academic year.

La Jollans help host 40th San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay

Collegiate rowing teams came together April 5-7, 2013 for one of the biggest regattas on the West Coast — the San Diego Crew Classic. The waters on Mission Bay served as the playing field for some 155 events, which culminated in trophy presentations Sunday afternoon, and the 20th Classic Brunch by the Bay, chaired this year by Jane Fetter of La Jolla and a committee of 21 volunteers.

UC San Diego’s Tanner Collins has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for Monday, Oct. 8. Collins finished first in the men’s 8k race at the 20th annual Triton Classic on Saturday, Oct. 6, leading UCSD to a first-place team finish.

The Mountain West Conference preseason football poll was released this week and the San Diego State Aztecs were picked fifth by media members who cover the teams. The Aztecs did, however, garner one first-place vote.

Times announced for remaining San Diego State football games

The Mountain West has released kickoff times for the remaining San Diego State football contests in 2012. Of the six game times announced, four will kickoff at Qualcomm Stadium at or before 5 p.m. PT.

UC San Diego pitchers ink deals with Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals

UC San Diego pitcher Tony York signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Cubs Thursday. The senior right-hander recently completed his collegiate career, serving as UCSD’s primary closer in 2012.

La Jolla Country Day’s Ayala says no to MLB, focused on college
