Several players earn championships at La Jolla Tennis Club

This past weekend, the La Jolla Tennis Club hosted a slew of USTA sanctioned championships. Among the winners was San Ysidro’s Luis Muela (pictured above), who defeated Christopher Meyer of Rancho Santa Fe.

Young athletes descend on La Jolla for All Star soccer tournament

On Saturday, players from 68 teams around the county turned out for the Second Annual Recreational All Star Tournament. Games, played at Allen Field, Cliffridge, Torrey Pines Elementary, JCC and Muirlands Middle School, featured clubs from La Jolla, AYSO, Del Mar Sharks, Escondido, Lakeside, Poway, PQYSA, PYSL, Ramona, Scripps and Solana Beach.

On Saturday, La Jolla Youth Soccer’s teams continued to play despite the rain. The Electric Eels, in black jerseys, faced off against the Giant Squids, which photographer Steven Silva noted were “very appropriate names for the wet conditions.”

San Diego Heat Baseball Club sends its thanks to La Jolla United Methodist Church for allowing the San Diego Heat boys to put a fundraiser together at their facility.

The Nomads girls under 16 soccer team moved into first place in their AAA Division with back-to-back victories over rivals Carlsbad Lightening and FC Heat.

Greg Fitzgerald and Brad Grant, known alternately as “Where’s Waldo,” won the amateur title in the fourth Beach Tennis Smash held over the weekend at La Jolla Shores.

Browne crowned double champ at Coastwise

Chula Vista’s Daniel Browne was crowned “King of the Course” last week as he won both the mile and 5K runs at La Jolla’s Coastwise Mile on Oct. 7.

The latest trend in beach sports will hit La Jolla Shores on Oct. 15 with the fourth annual Beach Tennis Smash. The event is the culmination of a season that got under way June 6.

La Jolla YMCA Gymnastics open house is Saturday

Learning tumbling skills on the tumble-trac

The La Jolla YMCA gymnastics team will hold a Gymnastics Clinic and Open House on Saturday at the La Jolla YMCA starting at 11:30 a.m. Participants will learn gymnastics skills such as stunts, choreography, vault/mini-trampoline and tumbling. Proceeds from the event will go toward helping to fund the team’s 2011 trip to Switzerland for the World Gymnaestrada.
