La Jolla filmmaker hopes documentary will plant ‘Seeds of Resiliency’

Two years ago, La Jollan Susan Polis Schutz wowed local film-goers at a special showing of “Over 90 and Loving It” at the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla. Her latest documentary, “Seeds of Resiliency,” is airing on PBS stations nationwide.

Documentary features inspiring lives with a few La Jollans among them

“Seeds of Resiliency,” a new documentary by filmmaker Susan Polis Schutz,, will air on KPBS-TV at 11 p.m. Monday, April 1. The film introduces 12 diverse people — a few La Jollans among them — who have survived tragedies and challenges by having great hope and helping others.

‘Modern Family,’ ‘Mad Men’ lead Emmy winners

AMC’s “Mad Men” won a record-tying fourth consecutive Emmy award for outstanding drama Sunday night, while ABC’s ensemble comedy “Modern Family” was named best comedy series for the second year in a row and earned awards for two of its stars, along with prizes for writing and directing.

Unique Calit2 broadcast invites viewer input via the Web in August

Although you can occasionally see history in the making on television, you can’t make history by watching television. However, the University of California San Diego is attempting just that with airings of “Kamza and Bar Kamza” this month on UCSD-TV. Two years in the making, the broadcasts of the previously staged performance will be synchronized with live Web content to allow interactive viewer participation as the musical drama progresses.
