‘Greatest Hits’ fundraiser set for music therapy project

Musicians Lexington Field, Steph Johnson and Tolan Shaw will perform a benefit for Banding Together (a nonprofit that aims to raise awareness and funds for music therapy for kids with autism and other special needs), Wednesday, April 24 at the Belly Up Tavern, 143 S. Cedros Ave. in Solana Beach.

La Jolla Music Society to salute New Orleans at spirited concert and gala on April 20

Seven musicians and 10 dancers will perform the collaboration “Ma Maison,” where the spirit of New Orleans comes alive in a raucous celebration of the city’s iconic culture. It’s all set to take place 8 p.m. Saturday, April 20 at the Balboa Theatre, 868 4th Ave., in downtown San Diego, when La Jolla Music Society brings together the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Trey McIntyre Project.

There are nine cutting-edge music concerts coming up that will be performed in acoustically excellent facilities with freshly written material by some of the best local emerging musicians — and eight of these concerts are free! The sole exception is the concert mixing sea and sound at the Birch Aquarium, where the cost is $10. It’s all part of the annual UCSD Music Department’s graduate student showcase called, “Springfest,” April 11-18, and it promises to be an interesting, funny, illuminating and sometimes wild event with a wide range of approaches to the composition and presentation of musical sound.

Students from Tap Fever Studio to perform spring show Saturday, April 13 in La Jolla

Tap Fever Studios will host its annual recital 3-5 p.m. Saturday, April 13 at La Jolla High School’s Parker Auditorium, 750 Nautilus St. The show, titled “Get Outta Your Mind,” will feature dancers ages 2-98 performing ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, hip-hop and UrbanElectro Shuffling.

La Jolla bands to get big exposure via Weather Channel reality show

The Saline Solutions and Neveready are scheduled to appear in an upcoming episode of the Weather Channel reality TV show, “Lifeguard! Southern California.”

Symphony Chorus auditions set for March 23 at La Jolla’s UCSD

Auditions for openings in all sections of the La Jolla Symphony Chorus will be held on March 23 in Conrad Prebys Music Center on the UC San Diego campus. The 125-voice chorus rehearses on Monday evenings with weekend concerts in Mandeville Auditorium, as well as other San Diego venues. Chorus membership is open to all community members with music training.

La Jolla Athenaeum to present three jazz concerts

The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library’s jazz program returns to The Auditorium at TSRI, 10640 John Jay Hopkins Drive in La Jolla, for its annual spring series. Concert time is 8 p.m.

La Jolla Symphony to present concert of 20th-century music

The La Jolla Symphony & Chorus (LJS&C) presents its fourth concert of the 58th season, “Angle of Repose,” which was inspired by Wallace Stegner’s 1971 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name.
The March 16-17 concert, titled “Repeat/Move On,” will provide a spectrum of music from the 20th century — from minimalism to rock- infused experimentalism.
